About me

Hi my name was Mindy but i answer to Mom Mimi to mimimom. My husband and I have had Guardianship of 3 of our grandchildren. my daughters children. Over the past couple years. One was reunified and we adopted two.
I will be sharing with you the day to day triumphs and struggles that we are going through I am hoping that by following me and reading my journey will help others that are setting out on the same type of journey.
I want to start with introducing myself
After high school I attended Florida Christian college for two years where I met my first husband we got married and had two children a girl on the boy three years apart. When my kids were teenagers I got a divorce. I got remarried when my son was in high school after my daughter had moved out. I have worked with children most of my life starting with babysitting, teaching Sunday school and as an adult working as a paraprofessional in the school district. I have worked at multiple day cares. I raised two children of my own. I’ve worked with children with behavior issues. I’ve also worked with autistic children. I’ve worked with all ages from elementary to high school.

My journey of raising my grandchildren started about 3 years ago it was the first time that I got a phone call that Dcf was removing the children from my daughter’s home. The house was destroyed they had bugs and dirty broken stuff wires hanging out dog poop everywhere the kids were supposedly locked in the room they were malnourished and they were not supervised. We brought the children home gave them a place to sleep at the time they were two and three years old they stayed with us for about a month while my daughter cleaned her house my sisters and family helped get it all back in order. the children were able to go home and I thought things were going to get better. She had moved out baby daddy number two he was part of the problem supposedly and moved in baby daddy one and three that was in June and In December of that same year we got another phone call again Dcf was asking us to take the children because my daughter and baby daddy fell sleep and the four-year-old had gotten out of the home walking down the Street unsupervised dirty clothes the neighbors told the police that the two-year-old a four-year-old were often seen outside alone at that point they stayed with us for six weeks during that time I needed to take them to the doctor to get there immunizations my daughter had to go with me. My daughter did not come see her kids for six weeks that they were here. She only saw them two times she showed up on Christmas Eve an hour and a half late for our family celebration and did not bring anything for the children but clothes that she wanted them to wear that evening. The next morning she was supposed to be here with presents from Santa for the two-year-old and four year old they did show up until after lunch six hours past the time they were supposed to be here. She was also supposed to be here to say goodbye to my son. he’s in the army. He was leaving that morning to head back to base. She missed seeing him and she brought nothing for her children she claimed she had been up all night wrapping presents and that’s why she fell sleep and didn’t wake up in time to come over we suspected that there were drugs involved we thought she had been on drugs since about October when she started acting weird. She slept all the time or she was bouncing off the walls. In January Dcf let her take the two children back home she was pregnant with The third and due in February. On Feb 18th in the hospital after delivering the baby she tested positive for meth and the baby also tested positive for meth and a couple other drugs the hospital allowed her to nurse the baby and Dcf allowed her to take all three children home with her. Two weeks later. again we got a phone call that Dcf was there and we need to come get the children again they had fallen asleep and The four year old had gotten out of the house this time he was all the way down by Lake shore which is about two blocks from the house and was almost hit by a car luckily someone saw him and pulled him out of the street saving him from being hit by the car. I think at that point is when Dcf finally realize something needed to be done because they finally decided to take it before a judge but before that happend, three days after the children were removed the swat team came in with DEA and arrested my daughter for trafficking drugs. She had multiple counts of drug charges. She had drugs in her house and was using and selling. Both my daughter and baby daddy 1 and 3 were incarcerated. My daughter remain incarcerated for about two months when my sister decided that she wanted her to be able to see her children and bailed her out so that she could spend some time with her kids. if she was going to go to prison fot years. She only saw the children for a short time then began using again and was picked up for failed drug test. She has been behind bars ever since. She was sentenced to 3 years in state prison. She has been though rehab and is doing much better. She has had contact with her children regularly and we have seen her twice. She is almost ready for work release. After 19 months of court appointed custody our middle grand was reunified with her father. My husband and I have recently adopted the other 2 children. We are in the process of moving from this area to a place in the country. I am disabled and hubby is retired.
